Can we align assessments with specific curriculum objectives?

Yes.

POGO Progress is designed to align assessments directly with curriculum objectives, ensuring that every piece of evidence or assessment data clearly links to what students are meant to be learning.  Assess at any level of your curriculum hierarchy: topic, objective or statement.

Here’s how it works and what it allows you to do:

Aligning Assessments with Curriculum Objectives in POGO Progress

1. Direct Objective Alignment

  • When you record assessments — whether formative (ongoing) or summative (end-of-unit or term) — they are tied directly to your school’s curriculum statements or objectives.

Teachers can assess at any level of the curriculum hierarchy:

    • Area of learning
    • Topic
    • Specific statement or objective

Example:

When assessing “Reading – Comprehension,” you can record a judgement (e.g. Secure or Working Towards) directly against that learning statement.

2. Customisable Curriculum Structure

  • Admins can upload or create bespoke curriculums under Settings → Curriculums.

Each objective or statement in the structure can be aligned to:

    • Grading levels (e.g. Emerging, Secure, Mastery)
    • Colour codes (for visual tracking)
    • Year groups or key stages

This ensures that all assessments feed into a unified and measurable framework tailored to your school’s approach.

3. Assessment & Tracking Integration

  • Once assessments are aligned, progress automatically feeds into:
    • Curriculum Tracking (performance by topic or statement)
    • Curriculum Coverage Reports (percentage of curriculum assessed)
    • Heat Maps (to identify strengths and gaps)
  • This integration gives staff real-time insights into attainment and progression across the curriculum.

4. Linking Summative Assessments

  • Admins can set up summative assessment periods (e.g. Autumn Term or End of Year).
  • Teachers input scores or standardised results that are automatically mapped to relevant curriculum objectives.
  • This allows side-by-side comparison between formative and summative progress.

5. Benefits of Alignment

  • Ensures all assessment data is meaningful and curriculum-driven.
  • Enables precise identification of learning gaps.
  • Supports targeted interventions and curriculum planning.
  • Simplifies reporting and evidence gathering for inspections or governors.

Tip for Best Practice

When uploading or customising your curriculum:

  • Use clear and specific objectives.
  • Align assessment criteria (labels, colours, levels) consistently across year groups.
  • Train teachers to assess at the correct level of detail to maintain data accuracy and consistency.
